need more documentation

This engine probably has the worst documentation I've ever seen. The examples get more into detail about the rendering than the actual engine!
I'm sure that if you were to provide a console application which would just print out the position of a falling box onto the screen, you'll be able to get a lot more people to use it.

overall it looks like a really good engine and it might even be able to compete with nvidia physx or havok in the future, but the severe lack of a simple documentation is turning a lot of users away. Physx doesnt need online documentation, every single class is described, in detail, in the documentation that comes with the SDK download

I like this license better than the Physx license which is why I want to move to newton, but I'm have a lot of trouble trying to find an up-to-date example or tutorial for making a box fall and integrating it into irrlicht. Newton 1.xx is lacking documentation, Newton 2.xx doesnt even have documentation :(

how do you go from a spinning ball(tutorial 1) to a whole scene with falling blocks and a big level mesh and callbacks(tutorial 2)?

If I ever manage to learn how to use newton I'm going to set up a whole website dedicated to detailed tutorials aimed at beginners or people trying to integrate it into their project

btw before you tell me to use the search button for answers and tutorials, let me tell you that I have. I've been googling for an entire day trying to find an up-to-date and working tutorial -.-

Have you checked out the wiki? all the newton 2.0 functions ARE documented there and 99% of them there should be up to date.

http://newtondynamics.com/wiki/index.ph ... ons_in_2.0

There are also tutorials on the wiki, which tutorial did you refer to, wiki ones or the demonstration examples that come with the SDK?

But perhaps a very simple minimal demo would help, plus a function call graph on what to set up might be a good idea aswell?

For me, it was very easy to get into Newton.

Here my experience:
- I took a demo with fallung boxes
- I integrated the demo into my project
- I read the Function List of the Newton Documentation and everything was fine.

I think the current documentation is enough.
Just look at the links at the top, 'those who can read have a great advantage' ;)

You have to forgive me for this huge image, but i created this as a quick (and incomplete) "cheat sheet" of newton functions on what you need to get started on a very basic newton simulation, i hope this helps you understand how to use newton and how it all works. forum hides part of the image, save it to disk for a complete picture:
