Request of a console example (just numbers not graphics)

Postby juanoncho » Thu Feb 25, 2010 7:22 pm

Does someone could provide a little example in a console mode? i think this could be usefull to beginers to understand how to use newton without having to understand a especific 3d Engine. After all... physics it's just numbers :) . (it could be on wiki tutorials)

I mean something that ask for a gravity and heigth and shows the position of a body every second (or certain time unit)... until it colide the floor, all using newtons functions. Something like.

Time Elapsed: 0.0 Heigth: 10.0000
Time Elapsed: 1.0 Heigth: 8.0000
Time Elapsed: 2.0 Heigth: 4.0000
Time Elapsed: 3.0 Heigth: 0.0000
The body has reach the floor.

I hope you could understand the idea... and i hope too this could be usefull to others.

I personally don't think alot of beginners would find it useful as they would have to integrate it with some graphics anyway. At least with an example that shows how to integrate with OpenGL they should be able to work it out for Direct X.

P.S If you remove the OpenGL references from a demo, it will nolonger have any ties to a particular Graphics Library.

Sorry, i have to admit we all want to see it with graphics sorry.
I request that becouse i personally was a little confuse with the tutorials (those showed in the wiki page), i'm not good with OpenGL, and some newtons functions don't recive the parameters showed in the tutorials.. (i supose it is becouse i downloaded the version 2)
I just thougth it could be a introductory example for beginers like my. I know this is an extremly simple use for a great engine like this. It's not the engine fault it's the newby user fault

The tutorials on the wiki were made with an earlier version of 2.0, so there may be parts of them which may not compile right(Due to parameters being added to methods, etc).

Ha yes I nee to recompile them.

I have lot in my plate now tryin to get 2.17 plus few stuff I nee to do next.
but yet I will bring them the last build plus maybe I can port the tuturials for direct x.

making a command line demo I do not see much valuet, because with out graphics visualization I beleive it will even harder then reading a book about physics,
Visualization is imprtnat to see what is going on.
Beside Newton is brigging the boundaies between Physics and Graphics, so we need a way to visualize the results.

Well I just could imagine how busy you are.. and you are rigth it's really hard to see all the effects just in numbers... but thanks for listening.
