Source Code for FPS Character Controller update 10/28/05

Postby dhenton9000 » Wed May 18, 2005 6:18 pm

I sm building a little MSVC6 Irrlicht/Newton playground for a character Controller following walapers samples.

Included in this run is

Head Tilt
W,S,A,D first person navigation
Jumping
Crouching
Third person following camera
Newton Debug Display
Loading from OBJ and X files to Irrlicht/Newton
Asset creation requirements for blender

Stole code from just about everybody, Mercior and Walaper mostly. Love to hear comments, or even better, improvements.

Wow very robust, and responsive. Good job.
Maybe this will make easier for some users in the irrlich community to use the engine, Because I think that after Mercior stop working on his wrapper the community find Newton a little on the difficult side. I am glad some body decided to continue or to redo his work.

Very nice Camera I was able to go up and down the starts, jo\ump on the platform and it wan very smoth.

I think it's the latest version, but I'm not 100% sure. Also not sure how long I'll leave it up.
You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.

Permanent home for newton demo

Postby dhenton9000 » Sun Oct 16, 2005 11:21 am

Thanks for the mirror, Electron. The latest version of this code has a new home at http://s-fonline.com/webhosting/dhenton9000/. You can find the link there.

The elevators are in need of a custom joint to prevent movement until the switch is "on". There are a couple of posts on this topic, but basically im waiting for the new newton release then Julio will have time to write the FAQ on custom joints.

* Ammo Counter
* Use of Irrlicht Animators for timing events
* Attached weapon to FPS camera
* Newton spheres as bullets--collision is reported via the Newton material callback system
* Animated nodes associated with newton objects
* Shootable targets that have multiple states in response to bullet damage
* fade from black start up
* Loading Progress Bar
