The Subliminal Engine

Postby Twixn » Mon May 09, 2005 6:18 pm

Well, for those why read about my Grav Gun...here it is :P

Firstly, i'll show off some screenshots:

Of the Steyr and crosshair
Image

Of the Pulse rifle in action

My proudest achievement, the Screen warping Grav Gun in action.

The grav gun, throwing a ragdoll around

The grav gun, Making a lovely sculpture from crates by hand

Hope you all enjoyed the screenshots, and the demo is avaliable here:
http://www.twixn.com/downloads/SBML.zip ~7.5mb

tell me what you think :P
(and if you have an ATI card, Sublimina viciousy abuses an ATI bug, which screws up the shadows, make sure you have Catylist 5.4, and you should be fine)

Also, play around with the config file. It has options for higher end cards like relief mapping.

[EDIT] forgot to mention, it needs at least an GF FX 5200, or an ATI 9500[/EDIT]
Failure is not an option!...It comes bundled with the software.

It needs ARB_f_p to run properly...so at least a GF FX.

The screen warping effects are quite simple...glCopyTexSubImage2D() and then a screensized quad with the shader : "Media\PPPull.cg", take a look.

And i actually thought the boxes moved at an alright speed :P

Wow this is really cool, but I think graphics requirement are very stiff.
WE could run it only in one machine,
Very very cool.

wow! I'm glad my laptop has a radeon 9700 so I could try this demo. it was really impressive, especially the gravity gun. I agree that the physics seem too fast, and the force on the boxes by the gravity gun LMB seems "too" strong.

also the realtime shadows were incorrect on my machine... very strange results. I have a radeon mobile 9700.

[edit] - might be a driver issue though, as I haven't updated the drivers since I bought it.

ran fine here (9600xt). didn;t like the relief setting though (3 and 4) .. the room was white (no texture I guess) but the box's/shadows where still visible.

Ok...i'll slow down the physics, and dampen the grav gun abit (thats one powerful grav gun :P)

The 3+4 detail levels in theory should compile on anything with ARB_F_P...but in practice only compile on NV GF 6 series. most likely because SM3.0 bleeds into ARB with NV.

With ATI...you NEED Catylist 5.4, there is a driver bug where shadow WorldViewProjection matrix is screwed for the boxes on pre5.4 drivers.

No, the 5.4 drivers fix walaber's problem...the problem you are having is that Cg is not compiling the relief mapping...but i'll have to take that down for the next release...for some reason the relief mapping ONLY works for GF 6.
