Buoyancy Simulation [EDITED]

Postby mlazo » Fri Sep 24, 2010 10:28 am

Hi All!
Here is few videos of current state of the buoyancy simulation from my Physics module. The current implementation uses Newton Game Dynamics 2.23 and Impromptu Graphics Engine. calculate the buoyancy forces and buoyancy center to apply the forces. The method allow to simulate various objects.

Why are the objects so stable?
In my Buoyancy simulation, everything makes extreme movements.

i'm calculating the buoyancy force and the point of action of these force with my own physics module. I'm not using the buoyancy funcionality of NGD. Only use NGD for apply the forces calculated.

Hi mlazo, very impressive work! Are there any further references to your work, such as publications, for example? I'm really interested in your buoyancy engine, so it would be nice if you could shed some more light on your algorithm, if possible. :)

Just incase people come by here; there's a very interesting article in Game Programming Gems part 6, chapter 2.5, on Exact Buoyancy for Polyhedra. This explains calculating the center of force, plus volume calculation of the underwater bit (though for a flat plane). The force is then easy.
