Seperating Collisions From Responce

Postby Avidan84 » Sun Jan 04, 2009 8:01 pm

Hey There Forum Goers,
I am new at this whole physics thing in programming,
i was trying to use ODE because it separates collision from response
quite well, and i was wondering if this is possible in Newton.
Am i able to use Newton to tell me a collision has occurred and where on
on the object it was occurred, then let it switch over to my code to do the
response.
I only ask this because in my current degree i am only allowed to use a library
to evaluate if a collision has occurred, any help would be great,
Thank you.

Boo i will have to wade my way through the errors i was getting, maybe i'll just develop them in parallel right now then,
thank you for your help.

You can do this with Newton. Just don't mention other products on this forum as its for Newton only.

Oh i am very sorry,
I found newton a much better use use,
i was disappointed at the though of leaving it,
once again very sorry.

I'm not sure how to do this but I think it can be done with material callbacks. Search the forums, other people did similar things (e.g. breakable objects if a collision was forceful enough).

I was also wondering, is there tutorials for the latest SDK like there is the older one from 2006,
or is that change from one to the other minimal?

See: NewtonCollisionCollide, NewtonCollisionCollideContinue, those functions are what you need to use if you want to use newton as a collision library.
