Hi!
I'm new in Newton and I'm gonna develop a little car racing game (another one,
I know...).
Yesterday I tried to build (compile,...) the samples included in the Newton SDK
with Visual Studio 2005, but I can't get those working.
I search a little for something like a tutorial or a guide tour but I didn't
find anything, maybe was so late in the night ...
Some helpful info will be really appreciated!
Thanks for your time in advance!

you can just re open the 2003 project with VS2005. It should be converted withot any problems.
Also the 2003 libraries binarye are tranbparent, they will link even in GCC.
In fact I every time I create a project I use VS 2003 and then re open it with 2005 and 2008 to get it converted.
I can not release a 2005 project because I do not have a licence for VS2005, I only have a 2003 and 2008 licenses.
and given the animosoty aut ther agaisn Newton and me perosnally I can not take any chances using any product.

But when I try to run the Vehicle sample I get this error:
I get the same error in all the lines with this macro call (_ASSERTE)

to work with VS 2005 you needto use the 2003 project and libraries.
MS did not make VS2008 backwork compatible with VS2005, you can run executable if you install the redistribution but you can no develeop. This was MS choice for reasons that I do not undernstand.
BU if you use teh 2003 libraires tehy are compaitble with 2003, 2005, and 2008, in fact teh 2003 libraries even work with GCC. 2003 was the best version of VS and 2005 probably the worse.

FYI, I've loaded SLN and VCPROJ files from 2008 to 2003 by changing the version number in the files from 9.0 to 7.0 (think 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 are valid, but can't recall for sure). They are text files, and can be edited in notepad. This means you should be able to load the files, and change the number 9.0 (for 2008) to 8.0 (for 2005), and I think there's just one instance of the version at the top of the files. I'd imagine that any options in newer versions would just be ignored in older ones, but not sure, all I did was compile and briefly test the compiled code from 2008 project loaded into 2003, so attempt at your own risk. If it does work, might save Julio some time in future.
I'm hoping it does work, because I have many projects to maintain and have just assumed it works cause it worked for me and a few others
.
