I'm implementing a simple vehicle system. I know Julio has something more advanced in the works, but for our current engine a basic system with springs and hinges will be good enough.
The only thing I am having trouble with is handling the gas and transmission. I use motorized hinges for the wheels. How can I simulate a transmission so the player pushing a button will give a good acceleration between speeds of 0-60 MPH or so? I want the car to start slowly and go faster and faster without spinning the wheels like crazy at first.
Here's what I'm at. Shocks are good, steering is good, brakes are good, but I don't know how to apply torque correctly for acceleration. Any tips on how I can improve this?
It seems you want to apply a little bit of torque at first, and then apply more as the vehicle is going faster. How can I keep track of this?
