Vehicle as box

Before I even try to attempt the vehicle stuff (which I attempted years ago and failed), I want to model some simpler physics. Plus all I need is simple physics.

So I have the Tank (A box), all I want to do is move it around on some terrain. From reading an old post on here about an airplane, it seemed that setting the torque would "turn" the velocity. But its not.

//If I dont set y-intertia huge, my tank will wiggle left/right when moving forward because it is hitting the terrain and the //terrain jerks it around.
Mass Matrix: 200, 200, 100000, 200
Friction for tank/ground: 1.0, 1.0
Elasticity for tank/ground: 0.0

W/S: addForce() in forward/backward direction
A/D: addTorque(0,torque,0);

So can someone help me out with some basics. Its sliding as if its on ice which makes me go "Oh thats because ice has a low friction". My friction is 1.0, so now what actually "turns" the velocity of an object. The torque is not achieving it.
