The most stable version today?

Postby Ivan Mandić » Fri Jul 30, 2010 3:44 pm

Hello Julio, right now I'm using NGD v2.08 in my game engine. I didn't implement all the features it offers I plan to do it now, that is why I'm writing this post. I want to know what is the most stable version so far? (whether I should continue to use v2.08) Demo that you put into the SDK package of v2.23 is not working quite right, some examples do not run on 32bit win at all. (I didn't try 64bit one).

Another thing that interests me is backward compatibility. Are there a differences in coding? (from v2.08 to v2.23)

Thanks

2.23 has pletry of bug fixes.
the demo do no work because I am chnegon then to use a more poweful editor.
the reason I publish 2.23 is because of teh Bug fixes.

if you have 2.08 then it sopdl be trivial to move to 2.23. Just tak ethe DLL an dteh library ad ignore the demo for now until 2.24

usig multi cros plaformn GUI and collada mad ehe SDK Huge and people get confuse thonk than all teh code si part of newton, when newton is under 1 meg of space.
I am changing that By making the demos uses the native GUI in each plaform.

Thanks for your help.
p.s.
I have read that you switched to wxWidgets ( looks nicer ;) )

I switched to wx Widget, but I hit a road block working on the editor,

The people at the WxWidget forum refuse to answer my question.
http://wxforum.shadonet.com/viewtopic.php?t=28340&highlight=
They deleted my post, and if some one answer, is the wrong answer.
so I decided to use MFC for windows, and when I have the windows going, I will see what GUI I can use for Linux and Mac
but it will be the officially native GUI of the Operating system.
I am sick and tire of jumping from GUI to GUI seaching for Lower common denominator set of featire, and always getting Lower Comming Denomator application.
The open GUIs are full of Bug, Memory Leak, incomplete features, and poor ducomnation.

After playing with MFC, is see that is is quite nice and eassy to use. plus you do not get the Blooted code you get with the open source APIs.
another benefit is that by using the native GUI, you can use the Native Graphics library too, so maybe I can make a D3D after I the first Open GL release.

It's very nice that you are personally helping developers, unfortunately not many people are like you.

If you find the time,go and read this article:

Julio is unlikely to drop the OpenGL demos, he just wants to have some Direct X ones as people post on the forum every so often asking "How do i do X in Direct X, i don't know OpenGL". While OpenGL is a better Archetecture (The ability to instantly use anything the card supports is far better than DX's "Only if M$ wants your Feature will it be implemented" and alone is reason enough), its upto individual programmers what they want to use Newton with.
