Is the index value the friction values you are setting for body 0 and 1 in the collision? So you are setting two different friction values, one for each body?

one is the static coeficien of friction, and the other is the kenetic coeficient of friction.
in general objects have static firction larger than kenetic friction.
for example to get a body to move you nee a force that is bigger than what you need to maintain the motion.
look it up in the net (static and kinetic coulumb friction)

the index refer to the direction, of tangent of the contact normal at the contact point,
at each conta point teher is a syetm of thre perpendiculat directions, normal, tangent and lateral tangent.
the index point to the tangent or lateral tanget.
In general you must set both direction to the same static and kenity friction values
