Transmission shifting formula...

Postby Dr_D » Tue Feb 26, 2008 10:23 pm

I'm using a setup very similar to that monstrouscar tutorial that used to be around for my gearbox. Also, I'm using a formula based on the velocity of the vehicle body to shift gears. Is there a more robust solution than if velocity.magnitude = Cgear1 then vehicle.gear = 1? This seems to work ok, but it's kinda clumsy, I think. I was thinking of maybe trying to implement a formula based on the engine torque and tire load. Does anyone have any advice for this? Thanks! :P

Calculate your best torque per gear points and shift there, I am not talking about peak torque or peak power, I am talking about optimal torque per current ratio, each gear will have a better shift point.

Some setups will actually require high rpm / near limit shifting.
