Collada on linux

Postby perkins » Thu Jul 25, 2013 3:45 pm

I can't get the newton model editor to compile on 64 bit linux, lots of errors in the process, I worked through some of them, but am out of time to keep hacking on it. The only part of it I really wanted anyway was the collada importer, but there aren't project files for it for linux inside addInPlugins. I tried feeding gcc the proper commands, but it fails looking for windows specific headers, specifically windows.h, which lead me to believe that the reason there aren't linux project files is that dCollada isn't supported on linux. The rest of the library seems to work great, and I can, if needed, write my own collada converter, but if you have any advice on how to proceed, it would be appreciated.

are you using collada?
it is a long time I do no use it, because all the stuff that nee to be added.
I have not work on the sitor because no one showed interest on it.
Collada is a project that seem to be abandoned by the Chrorsnos gruop itself.

The reason fo that is tha teh fiel forma os sop open, that no oen agree on how to export of import data.
data export by one implementer can not be read but other, soem tiem even diffrent version of the same plugin is incompatibel of newer versions.
the result is that every one has abandone the format.

what are you doing? do you have some expecific collada file you want to load?

I have blender files with physics information in them that I want to get into ngd, I tried using collada because there was some mention of it being supported. The other reason I started with collada is the 3d viewer I'm using can convert collada files to its own binary format. I can also export as .3ds, .ply, .stl, .fbx, .obj and .x3d, and I can probably convert the output from those to other formats, so I guess the question is what formats can newton load most easily?

Ha I see, collada is fine. let us do this, I can compile the editor project for core 300 and have the collada plugin in compling again.
the reason that is not build is that it has not being updated to teh interface change of core 300.
but that is very easy. afte I have buidling you cna buidl with linux of any you want.

as a quick test I open the project with VS 2008 and afte adding the pthread libraru dependency teh pluging collada coiple just fine.
I still have a problem because I chnage Guy form Fox to wxWidget, bu wga I do that tonight I believe it will be fine.

Netwpn does no tload direct Collada files, instead they have to be converted from colladad to .ngd

would you lika d Collda to ngd command line tool? tah will be a quick a dirty tool and you cn aimmdiatlly laod yor fiel in eh sand box and see hwo they look.
does that sound a goo compromize, untill I change teh dependecies on FoxTollkid in teh editor to wxWidget.

A collada to ngd command line tool would be excellent, it would let me integrate it into the build process, along with the collada to .geo I'm doing for rendering.
