Multidemo ConvexRay & multibody vehicle & more v2.18

Postby Dave Gravel » Mon Mar 29, 2010 2:01 am

Here some demos build under newton 2.18 and my system oxNewton 2
http://sites.google.com/site/orionx3d/MultiDemo10.zip

Control:
Left mouse button pick object.
Right mouse button rotate view.
Wheel mouse zoom in out.

Vehicle:
Arrow key for drive.
SpaceBar for break.

The raycast vehicle can have a lot more grip.
In this demo the grip is low because I have try to make it more sportiv to drive.
The road size is reduce in the raycast vehicle demo again for make it more sportiv to drive.
In same time with the raycast vehicle I can test my new camera to see if it follow good.

Have fun.

You search a nice physics solution, if you can read this message you're at the good place

I like it. The only issue I found was that I was unable to break anything in the breaking demo. Does a great job demonstrating some of NGD's features

Thanks, yes it's a alpha demo most part of the demos is unfinished.
The breaking demo is only a stacking box's demo for now...

Darn man, realic drifting like I never seen using a physics engine car physics. aweseome
A rear wheel drive Subaru impreza drifting, that's how they do it for real, this is something else.

Very few games can do that as an emergen physics behaviuior, not even the best racing car game ever, Forza, this is the best they can come up with

your mopdel really, really Kick Ass

There is a game I really like called Live For Speed that is a racing simulator not meant for drifting, but has realistic enough behavior to be able to drift with right setups using real-world methods.

Great game, check it out if not already familiar

Kella they use the eBrakes, Yes it is possible to do with eBrakes but the hard part is doing with acceleration and the steering wheels only.
There are race track that are all about perpetual drifting, and you could not race if you have to use Brake all the time.

Maybe I am wrong and they too do it without using brake, but it is still be nice.
Maybe we can see more of that when David release his demo and we can have setups that are simple enought for anyone using the engine to do it,
and have driving physics that is in part with profesional games that cost on the order of tens of millions of dollars.
Remember those games tah are made with tah specific goal form eth get go, while this is with a general Physics engine.

It is fun to drive and drag at the same time. Can you imagine an OgreNewt game using that king of Driving Physics with high quality graphics?

My method is not based on ebrakes, but if I use handbrake it can help to have more fun hehe.
My method is based on the mass transfer between the tire and chassis, this change the integral traction.
If I make a heavy turn on right the back right tire lose traction and spin on air more that on the asphalt.
The left tire receive more torque and slip for give the good effect for rotate.
Maybe I don't have the good word for explain it...

Drifters in LFS rarely use handbrake, the first video is all about replicating the real drift bible using LFS and different driving techniques :)

And yes, I would one-day like to make a driving simulator more realistic than this with NGD and OgreNewt :P

I think the video take too long to demostarte the cool drifting effect.
I think you should edit it or make a new one that show the eciting parts,
because people see it and the do not know that it is about drifting and they close it before it start to show the cool new effects.

Yes sure, I'm a little bit long to come back with a new demo I work on my little track editor.
http://sites.google.com/site/orionx3d/Clip04.jpg
I can export my track in 3ds format, surely soon more track types to test with the vehicle

I make a new video soon.
Thanks.

Wow thats start to look very, very good.

My guess is that you may end up making a racing game like some of the famous free one I see outhere.
Now that you have a decent vehicle model that can be tweaked and also a track editor, the sky is the limit.

Hmm, a low gravity moon buggy race.. i don't think anyone ever did that one yet, might be fun
