Commercial Game Engine Using Newton

Postby SirShane » Thu Sep 28, 2006 9:26 pm

Hi guys,

I just wanted to post a message about our custom game engine in development, called Toi. We're using Newton as the default physics system implementation for gameplay.

You can learn about Toi at its website, http://www.toi3d.com.

A very early preview release of the engine is available for download. You won't be able to play around with the physics much, since there isn't a whole lot of sample media that comes with the engine, but you can see the direction we're going with the built in tools and GUI. You're welcome to download it and give us any feedback. :)

Newton is a fantastic API, and so far we have had a lot of fun integrating it into the engine. We look forward to adding more Newton features, like vehicles and ragdolls, to Toi in the future.

Well we wanted to keep quiet until just recently. ;)

We use Newton to handle all of the physics for the seamless, persistant worlds that Toi can create. The worlds can be of an unlimited size, independent of floating point precision (We use a few tricks to solve this issue), and Newton works just great with it so far. We've integrated a custom character controller, but it could still use some tweaking before I consider it finished. Later releases of Toi will be much more useable, and will display the physics much more prominently than the current early alpha release does.
