Gorok - a fantasy fun-racer

Postby Praios » Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:55 am

Hi friends,

I just finished a Demo of my fun-racer Gorok.
I'm using Newton for the terrain, static and dynamic objects and the vehicle joint for the karts. I thought it would be nice to give you a look at my project since I always found help here, when I had problems.

my homepage: http://www.eta-games.de.vu
the project-page: http://www.eta-games.de.vu/projects/gorok.htm
the demo download (30MB zipped, no install): http://www-public.tu-bs.de:8080/%7Ey0028454/downloads/Gorok%20-%20DEMO.zip

I'd really appreciate to get some feedback.
Have fun
Martin

Hi,
thanks for your advice. I suppose you're right and I'll make an english version of the game in the next few days. This shouldnt be too much work so I might finish it tomorrow evening...

Oh i remember a simple movie demo with a green ogre-looking thingy driving a kart on a terrain. You complained about too much side sliding and hard control, if i remember well. I can see it is driving just fine now, and it's a lot of fun :)
Great work ! Keep it up !

I just uploaded a multilanguage version that supports english and german.
If it works alright it should detect your systemlanguage on its own. You can also change the game language with the graphics configurator tool that is contained in the download.
If the autodetection doesnt work ot there are other problems with the language please tell me (I dont have any english system, so I couldnt test the detection).

The link is still the same (ca. 30MB):

@Sury
Yes, youre right - it was really hard work to give it good control and it isnt perfect at all, but Im satisfied.
Thanks

Wow this is really cool.
I like the you can go over the wooden bridge, also I was trying to push a borders over the cliff but they are very heavy, I finally manage to push one and it tumbled down, very cool.
I think the vehicle controls are too cranky; maybe the friction of the front tires is too high.

This was a very nice surprise. :D

actually I do not know why but the car reminded me of the Fred Flinsgton troncomobil

@Julio
Seems to be a good idea to give the front tires less friction. I just tried it, but realized that the tires use the vehicles material and not the one i pass as collisionID to NewtonVehicleAddTire.
What is the reason for this fact? And how can I give the front tires less friction not using the material?

in the vehicle material callback you made a switch case,

in teh switch case you idetify the tire with diffrent ids, liek REAR_TIRE, FLONT_TIRE, CAR_BODY)

the you can set differents parameters per bpdy part.

Cool, this is great. No idea why I didnt use the callback in this way before.
This creates a load of new possibilities for the car behaviour (sliding through curves, etc.).
I think I have to rework the whole material callback thingy.

Thanks!!
