Thanks for motivation! I don't know if it's going to be first commercial gmae using Newton - but it's quite possible as I haven't read here about any other . But personally I think that a number of projects here would be better titles than mine

But as I'm still using 1.30 and most of you are using 1.31 then it probably be first 1.30 game :D

Man, it looks really great !! the town looks pretty big in video, pretty much like GTA3, i loved that style !!

[to walaber] is shareware also mean commercial use ? if so, i know there is one shareware game uses Newton (a block breaking game), but the game never mentioned using Newton... i just saw a newton.dll in the game's folder.

Dziękuje :D (but the town isn't big - there's total 8km of street in game with shortcuts and few bonus places)

I uploaded drive in the center of the city:
http://republika.pl/tmreality/demo3.avi

And a race with other cars:
http://republika.pl/tmreality/demo4.avi

race might be funny as AI is quite stupid - these green boxes are waypoints. The AI will be the same in final version but I'm going to reorganize waypoints to make cars look like their drivers have a brain

I checked it

http://www.realore.com/realball/

in my opinion it violetes one or two paragraphs from Newton license

3) The LICENSEE agrees to credit the use of the Newton Game Dynamics in any program information, including splash screens, "About" dialogs, program notes or instructions and shrink-wrapped packaging.

not a single word or picture in whole package or web site about Newton

5) The LICENSEE agrees to notify www.newtondynamics.com of any products, commercial, shareware or free that incorporate the Newton Game Dynamics technology.

And I don't think they do this either because 'Links' are empty

They sent us an email, and we asked if we can put the name on the link page. but they never replied so we did not do anything.
But yes they did notify us about 6 month ago.

Oh I see - but what about not mentioning Newton in the game itself?

It may be a publisher restriction, but there should be a mention in the credits. I remember I made a post when this game came out back in November.

Actually the AI seems pretty convincing to me. At first i thought that those boxes are some kind of power-ups or something, and the "drivers" were fighting to get them durrring the race :).Are you only turning the front wheels of the enemy cars to make them turn, or partually help them with applying forces to the body ? I can see you got a very realistic vehicle behavior and pretty high speed race with Newton 1.3, but what the performance hit is like with 4 cars ? You using convex hulls for the vehicle chassis or just boxes ? The modeler seems to be doing a great job with the town and the cars as well, they look like the old "Warszawa" :)

Anyway, great work so far!

I'm only turning front wheels - no additional "help" or cheats are applied. Yesterday I wrote in-game AI track editor and after a few hours of setting tracks up cars finally don't stuck nowhere, nor they drive into building/walls.
The asumption was that AI-cars are exactly the same as player-ones. It's just I don't like when AI cheats so I'm trying to avoid this.

Performance wasn't good enough until I discovered that trick with replacing collision tree with user-mesh trick - integrating vehicles itself isn't slowing game too much. After doing this trick I switched bottlenecks and now it's not physics but renderer which is bottleneck - but I;m going to optimize it as now it's quite far from optimal. I'm using convex hulls - they are of equal to box speed because boxes are also convex hulls internally and probably divided into regions so it doesn't matter and convex hulls are more realistic.
On Athlon 850 with Radeon 9200 64bit I'm getting 15-40 fps in four-car race with shadows turned off, but most of the time its 20-30 which is good enough as I'm using fixed 24fps frame rate.

Thanks again :D And good guess - these cars are based on Warszawa!

I've got another movie, showing why I don't like these jumps and stay with 1.30. Note that this behaviour isn't 'boosted' by me in any way - it's just vehicle joint with 50kg wheels.

http://www.tmreality.com/jumps.avi

The lesser whell mass is the better behaviour is but 5kg wheels doesn't provide enough grip and like to jump without reason
