Number of threads limited to 2

Postby hpesoj » Mon Feb 02, 2009 10:59 pm

With the latest beta on Linux 64, I can't seem to set the number of threads any higher than 2 - or at least NewtonGetThreadsCount() always returns 2.

the thread count will not be higher tha the number of cores.
you probably have a dual core ot a hyperthreaded, do teh trhe will be two.

Oh I see. I've read that the rule of thumb is to use 2 x number of cores for some multi-threaded applications. I suppose this is in-case you have, for example, a dual-core hyper-threaded processor?

I thought no dual or quad core processors with hyper threading ever existed.. hyper-threading is just to provide slight improvement on single-core CPUs like the pentium 4s and intel's atom (i think atom uses HT)

Intel Core i7 uses hyperthreading on all 4 physical cores, thus it appears as 8 cores for OS.
