NVIDIA: Direct rendering failed; attempting indirect renderi

Postby Auradrummer » Wed Jan 21, 2009 8:33 am

Hello friends.

I've downloaded the latest version of Newton Dynamics for Linux 32, and I'm running it on a Core2Duo 2.2 GHz with a GForce 7300 with 512MB.
I have the latests drivers installed and I'm running over Ubuntu 7.10.

To run the makefile properly I had to install a bunch of packages, such libglut3-dev, libglew-dev, libglui-dev.

After makefile had run, I got a NewtonDemos.elf inside 'samples' folder. When I run it, I got:
Code: Select all
NVIDIA: Direct rendering failed; attempting indirect rendering.
freeglut (./NewtonDemos.elf): Unable to create direct context rendering for window 'Newton Archemedia demos'
This may hurt performance.
NVIDIA: Direct rendering failed; attempting indirect rendering.
freeglut (./NewtonDemos.elf): Unable to create direct context rendering for window ''
This may hurt performance.
Falha de segmentação (core dumped)

Only to clarify a bit more: 'Falha de segmentação' means 'Segmentation fault'.

this is becaus eof teh crappy glgui.
this is a very mediocre library tha malfuntion is amosl all OS, teh only OS that does and decent job is window 32.

I will change gui to wxWidgets. The problem is that WxWidges is sush a huge intall base, but I do not think I have any choice I am sick and tire of spending hour debuging GLUT, GLWE and GLGui.

Hey Julio, good news!

That error are solved. The problem is not with Newton, but with NVidia drivers.
I had to remove all NVidia drivers then reinstall it via Proprietary Drivers Manager.

After, I had to turn on Direct Rendering inside the administration menu and then recompile. And worked.

But, I'm still with an error. I received undefined symbol 'pthread'. So, I added pthread in makefile.

Compiled well but is sill with 'core dumped'. I'll look for further informations and try to help.

Thanks for your reply.
