Newton occasionally crashes in UpdateDynamicsSSE

Postby hostep » Sat Nov 15, 2008 2:41 pm

Hi

We have a very wierd issue, as the title explains: Newton occasionally crashes in UpdateDynamicsSSE.
It seems to have something to do with the iostream class.

We don't have an idea what triggers this, it's very random. You can play our game and it will only crash once in ten times or something like that.

We are using Newton 1.53 accompanied with the OgreNewt wrapper to use it in the Ogre3D Engine.

Does anyone has any idea what could cause this? Is this a bug in Newton?

I've put a screenshot online of the stacktrace on mac, but the crash happens in windows too:

I do not think crash has to do something with iostream.
If current address very wrong due to corruption of stack then usually it has large value. Then often debugger takes last symbol of program as name of current address (because it is closest to current address). And usually this symbol is something in standard library - like iostream in your case.

Because it's still in beta I guess, or can we consider it as stable?

Just curious: when will Newton 2.0 be released as final (approximately)?

It is stable, do not worry about realiase date.
We do not send SDK for people to test, we reasle funtional code.
